A new website, makinghomeaffordable.gov was recently introduced by the Obama administration, which helps troubled homeowners find out if they are eligible for Home Affordable Refinancing or Home Affordable Modification. The site also offers links to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac websites, to find out if your mortgage is owned or guaranteed by either (a requirement to qualify for Home Affordable Refinance). Additionally, the site offers advice on how to find a HUD-approved housing counselor, along with other useful resources.
